Weeds Season 5 ep 2

All of these recap/reviews will contain major spoilers!

“previously on weeds” It takes us through memory lane of last season and episode one with what happened with Nancy and finally that there is actually a baby in Nancy.

We open tonight’s episode with Cesar in Nancy’s home because Esteban believes that she is in need of company. The next scene is at Nancy’s sister’s house Jill with her twin girls and her ranting about “typical Nancy” and acting as if she has “no life”. Nancy is getting mani-pedis and of course Cesar is there, the “escapes”. The old “bakini wax” excuse.

The next scene is opened with Silas and Doug walking through the state forest, and of course Doug being Doug. Silas continues in a little further and we encounter a cartel with semis. Oh boy! Following this encounter we see Nancy in a prison sitting in a cubby with the glass seperator and the phone…talking to none other then Guillermo Garcia Gomez. To which I’m none too surprised (it was in last week’s previews). He looks broken up, pale, unhealthy and understandably pissed. Guillermo to Nancy: “you wanna act like a big boy you’re going to get treated like a big boy” Nancy and Guillermo get into a tease-sort-of-friendly vibe about “titty tattoos” when Guillermo drops “I know you’re the rat & rats die” Nancy’s face goes from relaxed to worried, and Nancy again tells someone she’s pregnant. “You’re a fool you’re not the wife you’re the knocked up punta whore rat she end up in a landfill lady parts all chopped out face all unreconizeable, you were an interesting person to know Nancy Botwin get your affairs in order blanca I’m not the one to worry about”. Shit just got real.

We see Celia and Quinn’s boyfriend. Nothing new or exciting really, she’s being released but nothing and again too surprising. Back to Andy and Jill, with Andy making up lies about the Korean gang and how Shane has to stay there to be safe or until the trial. Clear sexual tension between the two of them as well. I put money on those two sexing it up later.

Finally back to Silas and Doug. Their captors start asking questions and finally find the weed, they’re released and stole Silas’ strain. Back to Nancy’s crazy sister, drunk with Andy and her complaining about her husband, how Nancy plays the victim and how she is the actual victim. Andy goes in for the kill and the makeout session with Nancy’s sister.

Nancy and Dean Hodes are discussing the fate of Nancy and if she dies in a random hotel room. Silas will become Shane’s legal guardian, and making it really clear that Dean must take care of this if anything happens.

Back to Celia, who has organized Quinn’s now ex’s tent of weapons which sort of brings the LOLs in its ridiculousness. She has no where else to go and is begging to stay, you feel bad for her as she says that she has no friends and no where to go.

First sex scene of the season! Andy and Jill! Who called that? Nancy drinking whiskey? Is she actually preggo? Oh boy. Hello fancy room and a gun. Hello Esteban, “are you drunk” Esteban is visibly upset that she is acting out with ‘his baby’. $100 dollar question “when am I going to end up in a landfill?” Hello 2nd sex scene of the season, Esteban practially raping Nancy who looks like she half enjoyed it. “Here you don’t dictate the plans of this arrangement.”

“Time to go”-Cesar roll credits.
Not half bad! Bigger improvement on the first episode for sure 4/5 absolutely. I enjoyed it, you almost feel bad for Nancy and how far deep she’s gotten herself into this mess I hope this season is going to be more intense then last season, which I have no doubts. Until next week!

So long ‘Scrubs’ – “My Series Finale” Review

‘Scrubs’, one of my favorite dramedy series recently just aired its series finale, wrapping up the series with eight completed seasons. The earlier ones being the best ones but for the most part the entire series was above average in quality. The last two seasons of ‘Scrubs’ have been rocky and inconsistent. Thankfully they were finally able to conclude the series how they were originally supposed to last season before jumping from NBC to ABC for an additional and drawn-out season. ‘Scrubs’ transition from NBC to ABC was not a smooth one. ‘Scrubs’ seventh season spent most of the time wrapping up storylines of characters and giving the show a sense of closure until the final string of episodes were either dream sequences or clip show episodes then it ended in lack-luster fashion on NBC.

There was no official series finale, but just a random medieval daydream/ storybook episode. ‘Scrubs’ creator Bill Lawrence was outspoken with the fact that he was not given time to properly conclude the series before cancellation on NBC and that’s why they went with something that didn’t fit the rest of the tone of the series. ABC picked up ‘Scrubs’ and gave them a full season order of 18 episodes, and for-better-or-worse, the eighth season of ‘Scrubs’ happened.

The eighth season of ‘Scrubs’ wasn’t bad; it was just painfully average. It meandered with used storylines and recycled character interactions, and even resorted to the “Let’s take the cast to an exotic island local” episode. This is never a good sign of a show’s longevity. Out of eighteen episodes, about only four of them were decent. However, ‘Scrubs’ season eight did manage to give the series a well thought-out conclusion and gave proper sendoffs to characters people have grown to care about over the years.

The finale episode of the series wasn’t spectacular but it got back to the basics of the show. It mixed humor and emotion perfectly. Bill Lawrence managed to bring back a feeling of nostalgia from the first three seasons of ‘Scrubs’ by skillfully intertwining laughs and sadness.  Recent episodes had J.D. (Zack Braff) deciding to leave the Sacred Heart hospital and take a job closer to his child so he could be a part of his son’s childhood. Of course this meant J.D. would have to move, thus leaving his life and the Sacred Heart gang in the dust.

The ‘Scrubs’ finale centered on J.D.’s last day and saying goodbye to the people he’s known for the last eight years. This hour long episode was strong but it was the last ten minutes that sold it for me. Particularly the scene where J.D. is walking out of the Sacred Heart hospital for the last time, he imagines everyone that he has met during his eight years there. All of these people in some part shaped J.D.’s life and helped him grow as a person. We are treated to a parade of guest-stars saying goodbye to J.D., and just about every notable guest-star from the last eight seasons of ‘Scrubs’ (with the exception of Brendan Fraiser, Masi Oka and of course John Ritter). After that we are treated to a look into the future and see how the lives of J.D. and the rest of ‘Scrubs’ crew turned out. It’s all happy and it works as an appropriate bookend to the series and one that it deserved.

There was nowhere left for ‘Scrubs’ to go as series. Every character was romantically partnered off and it was clear that there were no new stories left to tell with these characters either. This finale was the right path for the show to take, which is why it worries me that ABC is considering bringing the show back for another season. Under what circumstances aren’t fully known yet. What is certain is that Zack Braff will not return and ‘Scrubs’ creator/ head writer Bill Lawrence won’t be back either. Who knows what the rest of the cast will do? Either way, ABC needs to let this show die. After a solid series finale why on earth would the attempt to resurrect this show? Undoubtedly it’s because ‘Scrubs’ makes lots of money in syndication and another season in syndication would bring in more revenue down the road for ABC. So yes, financially it makes sense, creatively it’s a horrible decision.

photo American Idol: Top 4
The season long roller coaster ride that is American Idol plummeted into “Rock Week” tonight. Though, in a bit of a misnomer, the show hardly rocked. Attempts to freshen Idol with new additions has plagued the season from day 1: Kara DioGuardi, reformatted semi-finals, dual judge comments, Judge’s Save, etc. Now, add “The Duet” to that list. Along with their individual song, the remaining four contestants were paired up to perform a second song. While the rockers did their thing, the non rockers bombed in such epic proportions that it’s hard to fathom this being the best America has to offer.
Slash was the guest rocker sensei and provided pretty decent tutelage. But you know the show isn’t doing so well when Slash’s young children look absolutely bored out of their minds. The problem with this week’s theme compared to the others this year, was that none of tonight’s songs creatively strayed away from their original counterparts’ arrangements. Even the rockers’ performances were copy cat. And if the rockers were copy cat at best, the non rockers were…well, you get the picture.

Adam and Allison performs “Slow Ride”
1. Adam Lambert - “Whole Lotta Love”2. Allison Iraheta - “Cry Baby”3. Kris Allen - “Come Together”4. Danny Gokey - “Dream On”
The Verdict: No need to further explain who was good and who was bad. Check the videos for further reference. If you decide to watch Danny’s, please brace your ears for one of the surprisingly uncomfortable last notes ever on the show. FULL OF FAIL. But as much as Danny was completely out of his comfort zone, and as much as his performance suffered a horrid death because of it, he is still the most lovable and safest person in the group. Adam, too, should be safe from elimination. Being in the bottom 2 last week should be a wake up call. While he is uniquely talented, the likes of which has never been witnessed on the show, his haters come in bunches just as often as his supporters. He just isn’t the prototypical Idol winner of the shows past, and he suffers voter backlash because of it. In my opinion, he solidified his spot in the top 3 by taking advantage of his element and  being the unquestioned best of the night by killing his solo and duet. But to think he’ll coast into the finals is foolish ignorance.

Danny and Kris performs “Renegade”
When Idol takes its last commercial break on tomorrow’s elimination show, the 2 contestants awaiting final judgement should be Kris and Allison. In the perfect scenario, Kris would be taking his final bow. He floundered trying to bring faux-rock edge to his solo, and while it wasn’t as bad as Danny’s solo, he was the worst of the two in their catastrophic duet. Vocal wise, he isn’t in the same class as the other 3. But the reason why he has made it as far as he has, aside from fangirl likability, is his commercial appeal. Out of all the contestants, Kris is the most marketable, and stands to provide an album that appeal to the greater audience. This is why I feel this will be the week Allison goes home. It’s quite amazing what she has been able to accomplish. A rocker chick has never made it as far as she has. It’s a testament to her natural talent that she’s been able to persevere. Yet, even with being a steady performer week after week, she’s been struggling to garner fans throughout the season. One might think a solid rock night would be able to get her over the hump, but I just have a feeling it won’t be enough to overtake the votes Kris has consistently received all year. If there’s a week to be wrong, please let it be this week!
