Date Night trailer (Release Date: April 9, 2010)

NBC power duo Steve Carell and Tina Fey, a married couple looking for a little excitement and romance in their lives, embark on a date gone wrong. While the material here seems a bit cheesy, laughs are sure to be had with two of the funniest actors on television at the helm. And with a stacked cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Mila Kunis, Mark Ruffalo, Ray Liotta, Taraji P. Henson, Common and Kristen Wiig (not to mention Olivia Munn, *ahem*), you better believe this film is gonna get pubbed big time prior to its release. Especially on NBC.

In case you missed it!

In case some of you have missed the news this week, here’s a recap on a few big movies hitting the scene next year or so:

Peter Jackson attended Comic-Con 2009 to discuss his alien thriller District 9 (out next week), BUT the biggest update to come in which a lot of people have been waiting for was about The Hobbit. The prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy will be split into two films with scripts from Peter Jackson co-writing and producing the J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation. However, Guillermo del Toro, known for Pan’s Labyrinth, will be directing The Hobbit, not Peter Jackson.

Speaking about aliens, Ridley Scott will be returning to his classic 1979 hit with a prequel to “Alien”. Now confirmed, 20th Century Fox has greenlit the prequel, written by Jon Spaihts, with Ridley Scott directing, not Carl Rinsch. No production details or casting have been revealed just yet since Scott is currently working on Robin Hood and will soon be working on Monoply. Rejoice!

You can also scream louder since there is no more drama for Futurama! Okay, this isn’t a movie but remember, this series did have a few movies. Whatever happened at Comic Con 2009 is now in the past. Multiple sources have been reporting that John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille have finally reached an agreement with 20th Century Fox and this comes right after Fox put out a casting call in July to find replacement voice actors for the show, almost similar to what happened with The Simpsons a while back. Expect Futurama to air 26 brand new episodes on Comedy Central (or on Fox) sometime in mid 2010… And you thought Into the Wild Green Yonder movie was the end.

Well, here’s another movie that doesn’t seem to end. Be on the look out for Pirates of the Carribean 4, which will begin shooting mid 2010. Instead of the big epic adventures we have seen in Pirates of the Carribean 1, 2 and 3, Pirates 4 will actually be a reboot, scaled back a bit, and focusing on the main characters. So far, only Johnny Depp has confirmed to return as Jack Sparrow with Rob Marshall directing. Get ready for part one of (maybe) a NEW trilogy due out in 2011. More info to come.

If you want to know what other movies are coming out, check out the entry More movies to come: 2010 to 2012 for a preview.

photo I’ve been jaded.
For the past few months I’ve been away at college in the city. Now that I’m back home in the boonies, I’m beginning to notice the not-so-subtle difference of city life compared to life in rural landscapes. The most different has to be theater going.
Never once in the city had I been so irritated by a person sitting next to me. I guess in the context of stadium style seating, it’s very hard to hear the person next to you, with all these sweet sounding THX and all. But in the small, 200 seater theaters they have in my local, one story mall, I can hear everything- the nasal infections, the snogging, the heavy breathing.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the loud, obnoxious person sitting near in the theater would actually say things that mattered? I’m not asking for Ryan Seacrest, but even a Joan Rivers type of commenter would’ve been better than the guy in the back of me as I strained to watch FanBoys the other night. Every comment that came out of his mouth made me say to myself, “No shit, Sherlock!”
I’m also not too fond of the prices. I remember when my ticket used to cost $3.50 for a matinee, now it’s $9.25. I know it’s a different economy now, but WHY!? I remember sneaking in my own nachos and cinnabons in to the theater a few years back, even when it was that cheap. Now that it’s gotten pricer, I may be forced to do this again - not as an act of rebellion, like before, but as a necessity. During FanBoys I bought a $4.50 bottle of water! WATER! I very nearly told them to forget it and went in to the bathroom to stick my head under the sink for a quick drink.
I know, I’m ranting and there’s really nothing that can be done about the current state of movie-going, but I wish there was. I will be going in to the same 200 seater theater again tomorrow when I watch Terminator: Salvation, but I want the theater gods to know I’m not happy about it! Especially since they’re paying Kristin Stewart $12M to reprise her (expendable, and easily recast-able) role in New Moon, and I’m here forking over my last $10 to watch a movie I could’ve easily download off the web for free!

Why Having Wolverine’s Claws Would Suck
Despite having an early version leaked out, followed by last minute rumors of having alternate endings depending in which theater you go to, X-Men Origins: Wolverine comes out today. In the spirit of it all, here’s a fun video to check out. If you can only choose one of Wolverine’s powers, which would you pick?
Adamantium Claws or Mutant Healing?
