The Funcooker

video

With the recent passing of the King of Pop, there was no shortage of hearing MJ’s music nearly everywhere the past few weeks. I initially wanted to make a top ten list of my favorites, but I found it difficult to rank them all, and honestly who hasn’t done that already. Since I’ve owned all of his solo albums starting from Off The Wall, I decided to look up the songs on each album that didn’t make it as singles and chose a favorite from those.

I’ve included an imeem playlist (not a video) for you to listen to my picks. If you click on the top right of the playlist, it should open a new window/tab and you can listen to all the songs in full, instead of a 30sec clip. No need to sign up for imeem (even though it’s free).

So without further ado, here are my favorite Michael Jackson, non-single tunes (in order of album release).

Off The Wall - I Can’t Help It

I just love how mellow and smooth this song is. Something different in such a disco/funk laden album.

Thriller - Baby Be Mine

Of only two non-single songs on the album, this song has got the groove to bob your head to. You gotta hear the bridge, it really gets to you. Well, it gets to me. (“Won’t you stay with me until the mornin’ sun…”). The other non-single is The Lady in My Life and is a great tune, but when I hear the intro, all i hear is it’s sample usage in LL Cool J’s Hey Lover w/Boyz II Men.

Bad - Just Good Friends

I pretty much had no choice with this song. This album also had two non-singles, but Another Part of Me was used in Disney Theme Parks’ 3D epic, Captain E.O., and I gotta say that Captain E.O. was always first on my agenda whenever I visited Disneyland. It was AWESOME!!! Right?! Who’s with me? Anyway, I’m here to talk about MJ’s duet with Stevie Wonder. It’s such a catchy and light-hearted tune on a love triangle, and I like it that way.

Dangerous - Why You Wanna Trip On Me

This song is basically a way of saying that there are great perils haunting our world and MJ isn’t one of them. It’s another song that really grooves with me and has a deep underlying message. A close second favorite is Keep the Faith. Definitely a spiritual type song to pick you up when you’re down.

HIStory - Tabloid Junkie

Wow. talk about angry. This album is weighted with MJ’s frustrations. This is somewhat similar to Why You Wanna Trip On Me in context but not nearly as gritty. I think the chorus has a fetching melody, and dare I say it… it’s got a groove. I can’t help it. Special mention goes to Come Together and Smile. I think Michael did a knockout job on these covers. Don’t get me wrong, I love the originals, but MJ had his way with these renditions.

Invincible - Break of Dawn

Harking back to some sex-you-up-kind-of-smooth roots, Break of Dawn takes you there. I have similar feelings to this song as with I Can’t Help It— you just gotta listen to it with that special someone in your life. Or dream that one day you achieve a love like that. Cornball? Cheesy? Cliche? I think not. Just go on and do it— Do it, you!

Hope you enjoyed,

umop-episdn

RIP MJ

WHILE SHE WAS OUT directed by Susan Montford

First off, I fucking hate Kim Basinger… I don’t know why, that’s just how it’s always been, and yeah I know her performance in “L.A. Confidential” was amazing and blablabla cut the crap you don’t work for the fucking academy awards ok! She was the worst thing in Curtis Hanson’s film. There, I fucking said it. What else did she do? Absolutely nothing except getting her titties sucked on by a good looking Mickey Rourke… I agree, it’s more than a lot of women can pretend to nowadays (I’m referencing a good looking Rourke in case you didn’t get that), but still she’s a shitty actress. So, let’s now get to the film… Well, I didn’t really like it that much as you can imagine. It’s basically the story of an abused suburban housewife (boooohoooo), who witnesses a murder on Christmas Eve, and she gets chased by the murderers in the forest for a good 45min (I’m not kidding it’s fucking long), and then she gets all badass on the motherfuckers because she’s got…wait for it…a toolbox. Ok, I have to give the director a thumbs up for making the murders pretty gruesome but that is fucking it. We struggle for an hour and thirty minutes with nothing but Basinger on the fucking screen…arghhhhhhhhhh. One good thing about the flick is Lukas Haas, who plays the main evil dude. He was previously seen in “Mars Attacks” and the insanely awesome “Brick”, and thank god he’s in this flick because it really wouldn’t be possible otherwise. Anyway, you’ve understood there’s nothing to see here, and except four cool murder scenes, but really that’s absolutely it. Oh yeah, forgot to tell you, she kills her abusive husband in the end…there, you have it no need to watch this piece of shit.

Tonight on ‘Supernatural’: 4.20 The Rapture

The CW 9/8c
most areas

Only 3 episodes remain for this season!! I am so excited to see how this season ends. I am also very excited for this episode. We get to see more Misha! I have grown to love Misha and his character. Although tonight it seems we won’t be seeing Castiel, but Jimmy, Castiel’s vessel. I’m curious to see the differences between the two both in how the characters are written and how Misha plays them.

Episode description from The CW:

Castiel (Misha Collins) appears to Dean (Jensen Ackles) in a dream and says he has something important to tell him but they need to meet somewhere private.

Dean and Sam (Jared Padalecki) go searching for Castiel but instead find Jimmy, Castiel’s human vessel, who has only a spotty recollection of being an angel.

Jimmy wants to return to his family and normal life, but Dean and Sam are concerned about his safety.

Charles Beeson directed the episode written by Jeremy Carver.

Tonight on ‘Supernatural’: 4.19 Jump The Shark | NEW

The CW 9/8c for most areas

Tonight marks the beginning of the end of Season 4. There are only 4 episodes left, all of which should prove to be nail-bitters.

Episode description from the CW:

A 19-year-old boy named Adam (guest star Jake Abel) calls Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) looking for John Winchester, claiming to be his son. Dean and Sam meet Adam, assuming he’s a demon trying to lure them into a trap.

However, they find out that John was indeed the boy’s father and Adam tells them of his “normal” upbringing, which infuriates Dean.

Phil Sgriccia directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb & Daniel Loflin.

What is interesting to me is the title for this episode. Either Kripke is implying that the show has ‘jumped the shark’ or that one of the characters will…interesting. I have my own speculations…

As for whether or not Adam is really John’s son or just some kind of trick created by the trickster or an angel…I really hope he isn’t another trick. We just had an angel manipulation episode. This kind of outcome would really be a letdown for me.

However, because I got so antsy over this last hiatus, I read some spoilers and am somewhat in the know for this episode. To read it, you can  click here. I am particularly excited about this episode now and can’t wait to watch it tonight.
