In case you missed it!

In case some of you have missed the news this week, here’s a recap on a few big movies hitting the scene next year or so:

Peter Jackson attended Comic-Con 2009 to discuss his alien thriller District 9 (out next week), BUT the biggest update to come in which a lot of people have been waiting for was about The Hobbit. The prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy will be split into two films with scripts from Peter Jackson co-writing and producing the J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation. However, Guillermo del Toro, known for Pan’s Labyrinth, will be directing The Hobbit, not Peter Jackson.

Speaking about aliens, Ridley Scott will be returning to his classic 1979 hit with a prequel to “Alien”. Now confirmed, 20th Century Fox has greenlit the prequel, written by Jon Spaihts, with Ridley Scott directing, not Carl Rinsch. No production details or casting have been revealed just yet since Scott is currently working on Robin Hood and will soon be working on Monoply. Rejoice!

You can also scream louder since there is no more drama for Futurama! Okay, this isn’t a movie but remember, this series did have a few movies. Whatever happened at Comic Con 2009 is now in the past. Multiple sources have been reporting that John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille have finally reached an agreement with 20th Century Fox and this comes right after Fox put out a casting call in July to find replacement voice actors for the show, almost similar to what happened with The Simpsons a while back. Expect Futurama to air 26 brand new episodes on Comedy Central (or on Fox) sometime in mid 2010… And you thought Into the Wild Green Yonder movie was the end.

Well, here’s another movie that doesn’t seem to end. Be on the look out for Pirates of the Carribean 4, which will begin shooting mid 2010. Instead of the big epic adventures we have seen in Pirates of the Carribean 1, 2 and 3, Pirates 4 will actually be a reboot, scaled back a bit, and focusing on the main characters. So far, only Johnny Depp has confirmed to return as Jack Sparrow with Rob Marshall directing. Get ready for part one of (maybe) a NEW trilogy due out in 2011. More info to come.

link The Return of Futurama

It has been six (6) years since new Futurama episodes have been aired and even with four (4) straight-to-DVD films that flow right into our hands just to continue the epic story with Fry, Leela, Bender, Professor Farnsworth, Zoidberg, Amy, Hermes, and of course Brannigan, Kif and Leela’s pet Nibbler, it still hasn’t been the same. Well good news for all you Futurama fans out there. It’s baaack! With 26 new episodes to be aired mid 2010.
